When you’re following the Specific Carbohydrates Diet, it’s very complicated to find recipes. I mean, good recipes.
The official book has a few interesting sweet ones, but all the savory ones turn around replacing flour with almond flour – not everyone likes to add almond in savory dishes (I don’t).
In the past 10 years, I’ve been constantly researching for recipes, cooking tips, and information.
I haven’t found what I needed. At some point, I created my own recipes and cooking organization – and this blog 😀 .
Once you’re done with all the recipes I’m publishing here weekly ;-), you may want to have a look at the following websites :
- https://breakingtheviciouscycle.info : this is the official website. Here, you’ll find everything about the diet. And without any mistake, which, unfortunately – and that’s a big warning – is not always the case. Many blogs or websites run supposedly by people following the SCD do contain a lot of mistakes. Illegal ingredients, wrong information on the preparation… The SCD is not a diet you can follow at 90%, like a weight-loss diet, for example. To restore the gut flora, the diet has to be followed strictly for 2 years. Any tiny mistake you’ll make means months of efforts lost. I’d recommend sticking to official websites as much as you can.
- https://www.scdrecipe.com : also a staple when following the SCD diet. Recipes, list of legal/illegal, medical journal articles….
- https://www.pecanbread.com/recipes.html : this website is oriented towards kids following the SCD – let’s be honest, it’s overwhelming, as a parent, to discover your kid is sick, and then try to follow such a strict diet. This website helps parents step into the diet, with very detailed protocols (introduction diet for exemple).
And recipes.
- www.downshiftology.com : Lisa is not following the SCD, but in the earliest years of her blog, she did post a lot of recipes that are SCD compliant.
- https://www.everylastbite.com : Carmen has been following the SCD for years. Recently she has started to post recipes with gluten, as it reflects better the way she’s eating now. But if you look at all the recipes posted over the past 10 years, you’ll find a lot of treasures – be cautious with the spices she indicates, though, as she has a very, very high tolerance to heat 🙂
- https://www.wellbees.com : a website which sells only SCD ingredients. Located in the USA. Please note that from Canada, you won’t be able to get the foods that require refrigeration.
- www.treatsrevolution.com : a Canadian website which sells snacks and treats, and a few groceries, SCD oriented. Not all the products are purely SCD, but most are (crackers, granola, jams, lentils flour, pumpkin flour, seasoned nuts…. All these snacks that are so time consuming to prepare when following the SCD – and that we’d have loved to buy if it had been possible. And now it is !).
The others foods are mSCD compliant, or for people who are done with strict SCD, and now following it at 95 % (like my family – for example, I will tolerate a pinch of arrowroot on SCD marshmallows, as 99 % of the product is SCD).
I hope this helps in your SCD journey !
